IDI was contracted to design a new3,800 seat, 70,000 s.f. multi-use events center for Northern Michigan University that could facilitate aportable basketball court set on a permanent Olympic size ice sheet. The facility was designed toaccommodate NCAA Division I hockey, world-class short track speed skating events, and NCAA Division II basketball. Amenities and support areas include hockey, basketball and referee locker rooms, weight training facilities, offices, spectator suites, media and press boxes, Izzo-Mariucci Conference Centers, and concessions. The facility has hosted both the 2006 US Olympic Speed Skating Team Qualification Events and World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Championships. Three short track speed skating world records were set in this facility during World Cup competition in October of 2003.
